Colorado Real Estate
The images you see on this site are a good cross section of the beautiful scenery in the state of Colorado. Our state has as great a selection of cities and towns in which to relocate.
Colorado National Parks and National Monuments provide a diverse selection of getaways for local residents. Colorado city and state parks are very beautiful and varied as well.
Major Areas to Live
What surprises many people about Colorado is that it is a very large state. It can be essentially broken down into 4 major vertical areas going from east to west: the eastern plains; the "Front Range" near the eastern foothills of the rocky mountains; the mountains, which include the continental divide as well as a scattering of 14,000 foot peaks across the entire center of the state; and the West Slope, which includes desert areas.
While most of the west slope is semi-arid, a notable exception is the San Juan mountains in the southwest where Telluride and Ouray are located. All the well known towns are national historic districts. The vineyard regions around Grand Junction and Palisade is wine making country on the west slope.
Rocky Mountain National Park is located just an hour north of Denver. It straddles the Continental Divide between Estes Park on the east and Grand Lake on the West. Artful living is plentiful and the galleries in both towns are easy walking distance.
If you are a skier, you may choose to live in the central part of the state. The popular towns of Vail, and Aspen are located just about in the center. The real estate here is very exclusive, but the towns of Avon, and Eagle are close to Vail, or to be near Aspen, try relocating to Basalt, Carbondale, or Glenwood Springs.
For the ultimate 'small town' experience, but with great skiing, try Crested Butte. It's still relatively affordable with condos and land available. A few hundred miles to the north lays "Ski Town, USA", Steamboat Springs. If you want to experience real Colorado snow skiing with a less touristy feel. Steamboat is surrounded by ranches and is an outdoorsman's heaven for fishing and hunting around the Yampa River.
Summit County, is known as "Colorado's Playground". Living in Breckenridge, Frisco or Silverthorne provides easy access to the "playground". Another area to play in, that is a bit colder, is Winter Park, located just southwest of Rocky Mountain National Park. It has a ski area that is open year around. When the snow melts, the ski lifts are used to bring mountain bikers up to trails that traverse the mountain, and a alpine slide that resembles a bobsled run, but is ridden on a sled with wheels.
South of Gunnison, in the southern portion of the state you will be surprised by rich agricultural lands, hot springs, and even some snow skiing at Wolf Creek Pass. Durango and Pagosa Springs and Alamosa are three of the major towns. The Sangre De Cristo mountains are all the more majestic because of the stark contrast of the high plains from which they spring.
Denver is the Queen City of the Plains, but is really tucked in pretty close to the foothills of the rockies. Denver has everything you would want in a city, major sports, a zoo, a symphony, performing arts center, art galleries, a major library, and endless civic organizations. A variety of housing situations are availble from historic districts with cute bungalows to high rise apartments, to renovated lofts, to new suburban neighborhoods with every amenity you could want.
City living is availble along the front range with towns like Fort Collins, and Louisville that are consistently ranked among the best small 'towns' in the nation. They are very handy to the larger cities of Boulder, Denver suburbs Arvada, Littleton, and Lakewood. Douglas county includes small town living near Denver in Castle Rock, Parker, and Monument. Monument is actually quite close between Colorado Springs and Denver.
Colorado Springs is a very unique small city. It has a beautiful downtown with loft living, historic bungalows, and quiet neighborhoods, with nice parks. The flavor of this city is divided between military families, Christian influences, and traditional Colorado folks. Pueblo lays to the south of Colorado Springs along I-25, and is the start of the hotter climate cities along with Trinidad and Walsenburg.
If you are a farmer, the eastern plains are going to appeal to you, from Denver, to the Kansas State border. Major towns on the plains include Ft. Morgan, Burlington, LaJunta, Las Animas, Lamar, and Cheyenne Wells.
